Registration fee is $378 and includes 60+ hours of engaging musical theater rehearsals packed with acting, singing, and dancing. We include character coaching, vocal and choreography lessons, a bound script, practice tracks, and everything your actor needs to shine on stage; costumes, props, accessories, photography and more. A full musical theater production experience your actor will never forget!

The delicious adventures of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film, in addition to a host of fun new songs, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR. is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth!

Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR. follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences.

What to expect from CPACKids Musical Theater

Actors ages 8-14 years will learn acting, dance, vocal performance, teamwork, characterization, improvisation and collaboration. The hard work and fun concludes with the pièce de résistance; two 60-minute, full stage musical performances. 


Brass tacks
-We recommend actors bring a snack and water bottle to each rehearsal.

-Occasionally during longer rehearsals, we will ask actors to bring a bagged meal. You will receive notifications and updates on when a bagged meal is needed.

-Water only. We are lucky enough to rehearse and perform in a beautiful theater so we need to follow all the rules of the theater.

-We have a no screen policy. Mobile devices are helpful for so many reasons but not when it comes to being present and part of a team. The intro lines to most theater experiences have the words "please silence or turn off your mobile devices" - at CPACKids we take this to heart.
 
-Mark your calendars for the Willy Wonka, Jr. Parent Meeting on Monday, October 5, from 7:00–7:30 PM in the CPAC Theater. Building doors open at 6:45 PM. Actors will remain with the production staff during the meeting and will be dismissed to their parents in the lobby immediately following its conclusion.

-Tickets to performances are not included in the registration fee. Tickets sales will open for online purchase to families of cast members prior to public ticket sales. Tickets are $25 each or purchase 10 total tickets at $20 a ticket.

We want kids to experience traditional auditions so they can become comfortable with the process. Our auditions are fun, letting each child express their unique self in a zero pressure environment. Your actor will attend 2 days of audition prep followed by 1 audition day. Actors can audition for ensemble or principal roles. Casting is based on each actor's interest, comfort, talent, gifts and potential. We have small cast sizes, intentionally. It provides opportunity for actors to have multiple roles and participate in multiple ensembles. CPACkids typically casts 2 actors for each principal role, splitting the role into more manageable parts. With less time spent on memorization, actors can focus more on acting and learning characterization. A principal role will also be the understudy for the same role during the other Act.

If your child is interested in a principal or support role and wants to prepare a memorized monologue and/or song, that is great! To help save time, we have collected a few options from our current showtitle. Show title audition sides, choreo music & vocal audition tracks NOW AVAILABLE.
 

What is an Ensemble?

In musical theater, the ensemble refers to a group of performers, typically actors, singers, and dancers, who are not the main named characters but are essential to the production. They often play multiple roles, create the atmosphere, and support the principal actors, embodying the world of the show and contributing to the overall performance.
 

What are Principals?

A principal role refers to a significant or leading role in a production. Principal roles are typically crucial to the plot, and the story could not progress without them. Principals have a substantial presence in the production and often have their own songs, solo parts, and/or numerous speaking lines.

What are "rehearsal blacks"?

When CPACKids requests actors to arrive in rehearsal blacks; this means come to rehearsal dressed in a full black shirt (no logos or artwork), full black pants or leggings, black crew socks and black shoes.

What is Open Theater?

During Open Theater CPACkids actors are invited into the theater to perfect their sweet, sweet skills. Think of Open Theater like an "open-gym" for actors. Instead of shooting hoops; actors come to run lines, work on choreography, rehearse scenes and practice vocal harmonies. Attendance at Open Theater is optional.
On occasion we may ask for a rsvp for an upcoming open theater this would happen for 2 reasons: either we are looking for extra time for costume fitting or if we have an ensemble that needs a little extra practice.

What is "Call Time"?

Call time is the specific time that cast and crew members are expected to arrive at the theater, ready to work, for a performance.

What is Lobby Meet & Greet?

The CPACkids Meet & Greet is when our principal actors come out into the lobby in costume and stay 'in character" while meeting and mingling with theater guests and family members. This is a true testament to our young actors acting skills as they stay "in character" while interacting with theater patrons young and old.

What is "strike"?

In theatre, a "strike" or "striking the set" refers to the process of dismantling and removing all the scenery, props, costumes, lighting, and sound equipment from a stage after a production's final performance or run. It's essentially the opposite of setting up the show, returning the theatre space to its original, empty state. At CPACkids we find it important to leave things better than you found them and that is why we ask our young actors to participate in the entire performance process which includes striking the set. Many hands make light work so this clean up process goes pretty quick and helps each actor understand the true amount of work that goes into the magic on stage.
 

What happens during the cast party?

A cast party is a celebratory gathering held at the conclusion of a theatrical production. It's a tradition that allows the cast and crew involved in the production to unwind, celebrate their achievements, express gratitude, and strengthen their bonds after the culmination of their hard work. We will laugh, relax and enjoy pizza, salad and cupcakes together.
